  1. The one that I want to share with the class is this: “Candy Chang: Before I die I want to...”

The idea of turning a neglected public space into a wall for reflection and contemplation has inspired me so much. But actually the first thing I recognized with this talk was that unlike most of other speakers, she didn’t look very passionate and her voice was quite low and monotonous. So I sensed some serious, depressive and scary talk was coming. But as she goes with her talk and as I listened to her, I found myself nodding in agreement. And when she shared her painful experience I came to imagine that it must had been a challenge for her to stand there and give a talk in front of hundreds of people. It taught me that what really makes the speech wonderful is the honesty and sincerity in what speaker said than their appealing look and voice and posture.

  3. I watched Alexa Meade: Your body is my canvas. She painted an acrylic painting on the skin of man, and took a picture of it. It may seem like 2D painting, but it is not. I was so surprised when I saw a man popping up from the painting. She worked so hard on how light affected on the subject and whether she might mimic the shadow by paining it. Anyway her works were very creative and innovative

    1. Wasn't that awesome! I was impressed with how real the paintings were - and then you find out that they are! It blew my mind!
      Thx for sharing.

  4. I watched some ted talks and I want to recommend you one of them, "Try something new for 30 days" by Matt Cutts. This is a little bit short. It's only about 3 and half minutes. I tried to find another one(longer one) but it stays in my mind. All ted talks that I watched were wonderful, though. Why I keep thinking about this ted talk is this has inspired me a lot. It made me start to walk instead of taking a bus when it's not so far. Even though I knew about this story cause I've read this kind of story in a book, it was more inspiring. I think it's because he tells about his story and shows his pictures so it came to me more powerfully and deeply. It has shown that when you talk about your story it makes more sincere. When we do ted talk, I think an inspiring story is the most important thing not just talking about something that you are interested but something that can change or affect people's thoughts. I tried last time, it was difficult hahaha xp

    Have a nice day,
    Claire

    1. Ah, yes! I have used this talk in my intensive English classes as a personal project. One of my students decided to start going to the gym regularly - he set up a schedule and stuck to it every day for 30 days. Later I saw him on campus and almost didn't recognize him! In one year he had grown up into a muscular confident young man, and he said it all started from Matt Cutt's TEDtalk, and our intensive English class project. I highly recommend this TED talk.

  5. I watched a TED talk named "3things I learned while my plane crashed" by Ric Elias. people usually don't realize what their lives really are. But he realized his real life, after he had a special experience; air plane crashed. I think that experience is really precious to him, even though it was kind of terrible memory to him. After that happened, his life was changed a lot. He talked about 3things that he learned while his plane crashed. First, he learned that it all changes in an instant. Second, he really felt one real regret that his humanity. Third, mental clock starts going. I agree to all the things he said, especially to the third one. We know, someday we are all going to die. Only the difference is the time to die. We don't know what kind of things going to happen to us. So everyday thank you all for being with us; relationship with friends, family, people.

    1. Adapted from Ric Elias.....Imagine that you are flying today, and imagine the something happens on your plane -- it's going to crash -- so imagine. How would you change? What would you get done that you're waiting to get done because you think you'll be here forever? How would you change your relationships and the negative energy in them? And more than anything, are you being the best son/daughter/friend that you can be?

      Thanks for sharing Gwi-ju.

  6. I watched a TED talk, "Suheir Hammad: Poems of war, peace, women, power." This is one of the most impressive poems I've heard. I would like to recommend this talk to my acquaintances. It was very fascinating! I lost track of the time. While I was watching this talk, I was really hooked on her talk because of her expression and passion. Even though she just read a poem, I was really impressed. She spoke about all struggles of women. I felt and understand the pain of those affected by war, the helplessness of many innocent people. This talk made me keep thinking about war. I would tell how to feel this talk, but.... I highly recommend this talk!

  7. Seyoung Kim (김세영)

I watched a " Love letters to strangers " by .Hannah Brencher. My first impression was, touching. Her mom didn't believe the internet, so she always sent Hannah a real mail. After she graduted from the college, she had some depression so she decided to do what her mom had done. She wrote some kinds of love letters and put everywhere in the city. And she wrote on her blog. "If you want to get a love letter, I would write you one." then she got tons of requests from who live alone, or students who had been getting bullying. I was so touched and I thought that we do everything with a computer, and some people feel alone with these stuff which are always caused upon a screen. I saw this ted talk twice and it's a bit duffucult to express what I am feeling right now. But I was so moved by this talk. And also this talk has a litte connection to my TED10. (a little bit lol) Anyways.. now there is a campaign to send a love letter to people who need some couragement. so cool ! I could see Hanna's affection or love of the things what she had done. 'Cause her eye were so twinkling!

  9. 'Tom Wujec: Build a tower, build a team' was the talk I'd watched. It's showed interesting game that almost everyone can do with little bit of things, with little bit of time. The talk was different from other talks because Tom Wujec brought the idea of the talk from other talker, 'Peter Skillman'. I thought it's a one good way of doing one's talk. Going futhermore with other's idea. The talker also included humorus points and unexpected results of games that could keep the audiences' attention. And by the talk talker give us the idea. By showing the result of the making marshmellow tower, the talk give us the importance of 'prototype experience' in work. From the talker's word, that experience could make "uh-oh" moment to "ta-da" moment. And that could make a big change.

  10. Hi I'm Min Hye Kim
I watched the ted talk called Roberto D'Angelo + Francesca Fedeli: In our baby's illness, a life lesson. I chose this at first because there was a cute baby in the screen. The people who gave presentation were his parents. The kids name is Mario and he had a strock when he was 10 days old. His right part of brain was gone so he couldn't control his own left side of the body. At first, they felt like a failure. They tried the physioteraphy called mirror neurons pilot. The theraphy is to show mario how the parents grab the objects and it reacts to his brain. One day the father realized that he was not looking at his hands but he was watching his face. That was when the parents felt that they should be the best mirror. I really liked this over couple more ted talks I watched today because after all, I think being a good parents is the most important thing in the life. Other talks were smoother and better organized but this was the one that touched me the most. I think heir realization is precious and the most important thing out of all the knowledge.

p.s I was sick last week and I hope I get a second chance to do ted 5 this week thank you see you tomorrow !

  11. Junhee Yoon: i watched Joe Smith's how to save a towel. He emphasized how much we can save a towel with figures if we reduce the usage of paper towel. As he mentioned the figures, i became more attentive to his speech. In addition, he demonstrated how we can save the paper towels. We only need to shake and fold to save the towel. It was interesting to watch with his humour. He also made the audience to participate in his demonstration and i liked it.

  12. I saw "The world's English mania" by Jay Walker.

He explains why so many people want to learn English all over the world.
He shows some videos that Chinese students are learning and shouting English.
It amazed me. He explains that English can be a opportunity for a better job and life. I agree with his opinion. Because Korean students is not different to Chinese students. We have to study English for test and getting a job. Even though I've learned English since I was 10 in elementary school, when I traveled around the Europe last year, only then did I realize the importance of English. Now I'm seriously thinking about why I should learn English. It can be communicate with foreigners, understand pop songs and holly wood movies well, and get a good job. Anyway, I choose it because we need to think about why we should learn English. Learning English is good because English is the universal language of the world, but I think we should be aware the mistakes we do because of the importance of English. For example, teaching English to kids when they are too young like 3 or 4 and proxy exam for getting a good TOEIC score. I think that English can be good means, not purpose.
    Thanks!

  13. Hi Greg! How was about this week? Weather is very fickle. right? I thank you for your passion for this class.
Btw I watched a few Teds. Especially I was into "Wearing nothing new" by Jessi Arrington. This ted suited me very well. The reason is super simple. I love inspiration and she did.
She was talking not only about Fashion, but about " If you believe you're a beautiful person inside and out, there is no look that you can't pull off. "
I felt like I touched sunshine and Her smile was stunning during the entire Ted that I've ever seen in Ted. she made happy other people like her story.
As she said " Just be who you are. " She is a just shiny girl.
I'm really inspired of her. I love this moment. Sometimes I hated my everyday life, at that time I need like this. :-)
See you in class. Greg. Thanks!

  14. Eun Young Shin(Joy) :
In order to do well in this class, I watched over 10 tedtalks. Seeing many TED talks, I thought that it would be helpful not only to get good grades in class, but also my "life". I think it really does help. At first, I used to watch most viewed one but now I'm watching randomly using ted app. Today, I watched Amy Cuddy: "Your body language shapes who you are" again. The reason why I choosed it is that I've got confidence from this talk. In this talk, she told an anecdote about her past and it was really impressing. Especially, the latter part of her talk about how she encouraged her student who has trouble with class was really good. Even, when she choked up with emotion, I did too! I'll keep "Fake it till you make it" in my mind.

  15. Also, I watched Ludwick Marishane: "A bath without water". This 5min talk was about how can be 'Drybath' made and its effect. I really enjoyed this talk. First, this young guy who grew up in Limpopo told us his own story and it matched well with the reason why he made 'drybath'. He said, he did all of this just because he didn't want to bathe! What a interesting story is! Also it made many people save their time even save water. In this part, I was surprised that just simple and a little bit bold idea made great invention. I also liked that he used a lot of humor. Although he moved his body frequently but it was not a big deal. What if he talked he's story using specific numbers? I would be boring. In this talk, he used his own humor to explain how he invented something for example, "Man, why doesn't somebody invent something that you can just put on your skin and then you don't have to bathe?" like this.

  16. I watched Bandi Mbubi: "Demand a fair trade cell phone". It is related to my TED10. I have been interested in 'Fair Trade'. I have known the ethical issues about chocolate, gold, coffee bean and some others, but, I didn't know the issue about cell phone. He said, mineral called 'tantalum' is causing civil war in Congo. It is same case with civil war caused by diamond. He is Congolese. Actually, I think that he wasn't skillful speaker. Because his sense of humor was lack, and there are no outstanding presentation skills. But, I loved the topic. And, I felt his earnest will. It was enlightening speech and the contents was what we must know.
